The DC Circuit just ruled that the culture of autologous cells or to digest autologous fat at the bedside it is now illegal without FDA approval. Considering that the FDA was the plaintiff in this case, I do not expect that to happen any time too soon.
What does that mean for patients? The only legal way to use stem cells in the treatment of arthritis or tendon/muscle injury is with PRP or BMC. We continue to make great progress in the use of stem cell therapy but unfortunately, we will continue to fall behind other nations. Thats not news but but my opinion.

Dr. DeGroote has been using PRP and BMC as well as other techniques (surgical and non-surgical) for cartilage restoration for many years with success. However, he always emphasizes that this a treatment that is still in its infancy with regards to better outcomes.

What Our Patients say

“I travelled several hundred miles to see Dr. DeGroote for my shoulder…. He explained my problem and treatment options clearly. I would see him again in a heart beat.”Blair Stewart, NHL Alumni (Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, Quebec Nordiques)

“My husband, Tony and I travelled over 1100 miles … so that he could have double knee implants by Dr. DeGroote. We searched in Canada… but there was no one with the experience and reputation as Dr. DeGroote. Tony had both knees operated on… and Dr. DeGroote has changed Tony’s life.” - Vicky Vanden Hoeck
