Knee Joint Replacement

For more than fourty years, joint replacement surgery has had a profound effect on the quality of life in patients with advanced arthritis. And now, new technologies may offer further benefits to qualifying adults suffering from knee pain.

Our patients typically undergo a program of conservative management prior to surgery that may involve steroid injections, hyaluronic acid supplementation (Synvisc, Hyalgan, Supartz), bracing, and physical therapy.

Frequently Treated Problems:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Birth deformity of knee
  • Painful joint replacements
  • Arthritis following an injury
  • Knee pain of unknown cause

Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Injuries or conditions that damage the ligaments, bone, cartilage, and other soft tissues surrounding the knee joint can frequently be repaired with minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, or “knee scope.” The knee scope is usually an out-patient procedure that offers smaller incisions, earlier rehabilitation, and an earlier return to activity.

Advanced Cartilage Restoration has revolutionized the options now available to patients with joint cartilage damage. Procedures are now available to surgically repair, regenerate, or replace cartilage to relieve pain, delay the onset of arthritis, and delay the need for joint replacement. Dr. DeGroote has been using the body’s mesenchymal stem cells for almost a decade to try and stimulate new cartilage growth.

Frequently Treated Problems:

  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Torn ligaments and tendons
  • Sprains and strains
  • Sports knee injuries
  • Cartilage damage or loss
